Return to Work action Plan
All clients receive a free Needs Assessment. If a client wishes to work with a Counsellor, personalized Action Plans are developed. This is the essential first step in developing an effective plan that will see a client reach self sufficiency.
Each plan will vary, depending upon client background and determined needs.
- A client may simply need help with creating a current resume. A client may need guided direction during the job search.
- A client may be having difficulty with Career Decision Making.
- A client may be considering skills training as a necessary step before his/her job search.
All of these issues need a plan. There is no point of rushing into training if it is not really needed when in fact a better organized job search may quickly get the client the job that is needed. By working with a counsellor these variables should be examined and a proper plan of progress laid out.
Job Search Support
Working within a defined action Plan, clients will be supported through their job search process. It is preferred that the client lead on all actions but staff will assist at any point along the way.
Using all of the Resource Centre tools, clients will develop effective resumes, learn about cold calling techniques, marketing strategies, interview tips, participate in workshops that support these activities, be provided with the working materials needed and so on. Regular contact with staff will also help reinforce the efforts that are necessary for an effective job search.
Resume Development
All job seekers need an effective resume. You will learn about the variety of styles and purposes of different resume styles. You may require more than one style if you have a diverse skills set and could be marketing yourself in several directions. Staff will assist you in this process. In the end, you need a resume that you are comfortable with.
Career Counselling
Most clients do require some level of career counselling. Often the job search success will hinge on sorting out issues that are affecting the job search or the direction of one’s career. Some issues may be of a personal nature and some may be very much related to past work experiences, skills and opportunities. Working with a counsellor will help to clarify or provide direction. Practical decisions need to be made throughout any career path. Establishing a realistic plan that suits your personality, skills set and desire are all very important points that affect employment and job retention.
