Everyone who reads the news these days knows that the economy has had a major shake up. Government agencies of all sorts have been telling us that the worst is over. Let’s hope so.
If you are unemployed then the upside of these comments is not directly helping your situation. It is easy, however, to dwell on the negative and that process will not usually help with your employment needs.
Our view is that you must be optimistic. An unemployment rate of, say, 7.5 % means that 92.5% or the workforce is employed. What can you do to get into that employed number?
If you are reading this message, you have already made a positive step. There are incredible free resources available in every community to help you get back to work, to help develop new skills, to help establish your own business, to help you with personal career decision making, to help you with your job search and to help you with any other requests or needs that you have.
The Canadian Career Academy is proud to be part of the Employment Ontario network of agencies helping people advance their careers. Client needs do vary widely but we consistently find that if a job seeker is organized and has a development plan, that great progress can be achieved.
The Local Labour Market is a frequently used term to reflect our local area and the employment activity within that area. Different parts of the Province and parts of Canada have differing employment needs. Some areas will have higher or peak demands for certain skills. It is your research that will tell you where “the jobs are” in your skills set.
We are always concerned that people understand the information they receive. If someone tells you there are no jobs for a particular skill set, please, question that information. Often, jobs are not advertised, often certain skills are more for a niche market. Your marketing skills will find opportunities that are not obviously advertised. If you feel that you have really exhausted your job search there are opportunities to explore skills training or starting your own business.
Both of these activities are very popular and well supported by Employment Ontario programs. At the Canadian Career Academy your employment counselor will help you sort through all of this and set you on a path.
Even though the news can seem negative, you will seldom notice the positive business stories. In almost every community there are business expansions and employment opportunities. The trick is to find them.
All servics are free of charge. If you are unemployed, just entering the work world or suspecting your job is in danger, come and see us. We are proud to be part of the New Employment Ontario Network. |
